Maple, Rustic Cherry, Hickory

Tier I

Maple is a versatile wood, with a lighter color that lets us offer more staining options than any other species. Its fine, uniform grain results in a very smooth surface when finished.

Cherry wood, whether pale or dark, generally has a reddish tint. Rustic cuts of cherry has visible knots and
pitch streaks, giving it character.

Hickory is strong, hard, and heavy. Hickory wood often displays striking patterns of grain in two distinct shades.

Underside Finish Options

The darker the desktop stain relative to the natural color of the wood, the starker the contrast between the top and bottom of your desktop. We offer three options for finishing the bottom of your desktop:

  1. Standard Sealed Bottom: Sprayed with two coats of finish to seal and protect the wood from environmental changes. May show wipe marks from artisan's hand-staining along the edges. Note: Darker stains on lighter-colored woods will show the greatest color variation between top and bottom.
  2. Spray Toned Bottom: In addition to standard sealing, the bottom is spray-toned with a stain color similar to the final finish of the desktop. Not as elegant as hand-wiping, but provides better color consistency between the top and bottom as compared to standard sealing. May show occasional wipe marks carried over from hand-wiping the top. A practical choice for masking the color contrast on lighter-colored woods with darker finishes.
  3. Heirloom Quality Bottom: Fully-finished to the same superior standards as the top of the desktop. Hand-wiped stain completely eliminates color contrast between top and bottom for all wood options. Keep in mind the most visually-striking side of the wood slab is always selected for the top surface. While the bottom may show a few more minor imperfections, the stain is exquisitely hand-applied on both sides. The most elegant option for matching the top and bottom of your desktop.
